    Shirley May Wyatt

    December 26, 1930 - May 22, 2019

Inman: It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley May Wyatt, age 88, announces her passing into her eternal rest on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. She was a resident of Rosecrest Retirement Community in Inman, SC. Shirley was born December 26, 1930 in Endicott, NY to Thomas and Edna Crooks of Vestal, NY. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who during her professional career was a secretary, teacher and librarian. She met her husband, Virgil Wyatt while working at IBM in Endicott, NY and married in 1952. She showed great strength and wisdom raising 6 children. Upon Virgil’s transfer to Boca Raton, FL, the family moved to Lighthouse Point, FL and while Virgil continued designing early computers Shirley taught Montessori to pre-schoolers and became a librarian at the Lighthouse Point Library from where she retired in 1989 after 20 years of service. Upon Virgil’s passing in 1998 Shirley relocated to northern Virginia with her two youngest daughters. Shirley loved young children and made a difference teaching Montessori students and children’s reading sessions at the library. She and Virgil loved to travel and took their kids on several cross-country trips and to Canada. She and Virgil passed on their passion for the outdoors to their children who also have a passion for hiking, gardening and fishing. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Wyatt, siblings, Thomas Crooks. Jr., Samuel Crooks, and Bonnie Pickering. She is survived by her six children, Richard Wyatt (Pam), Shelley Conklin (Randy), Linda Bruscia (Jeff), Eugene Wyatt (Nancy), Susan Wyatt, and Dawn Wyatt along with her five grandchildren, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family will gather to pay their final respects and celebrate Shirley’s life and legacy on Monday, May 27, 2019 at Living Waters Funeral Home, 529 Spartanburg Hwy. S. (US29), Lyman, SC 29365. Viewing begins at 2:00pm with services beginning at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Operation Smile (secure.operationsmile.org)
