Barbara Garrick Ochs

Greenville, SC – Barbara Garrick Ochs passed away peacefully at her residence on January 20, 2021 at 89 years of age. Barbara was the loving wife to the late Joseph Ochs and daughter to the late Delmar and Mildred Garrick. Barbara was a strong and devoted mother of six children whom she raised on her own after the passing of her husband in 1969. She loved unconditionally, she inspired others and touched the hearts of many. She was a faithful member of the Royal Poinciana Methodist Church in Miami Springs, Florida where she sang in the choir and was director of their drama club. She enjoyed music from the 40’s and 50’s and was quite fond of barbershop music. Barbara loved to sing and was a member of Sweet Adelines in Miami in the 1970’s. She was also a huge fan of and regular donor to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital. One of Barbara’s many talents was needlepoint and she spent countless hours crafting to create gifts for her beloved family members. Aside from raising her children and making gifts for her family, Barbara worked in the insurance industry at Best Dorsey Insurance Company where she retired after 20 years as an insurance underwriter. After retirement, Barbara moved to South Carolina and although she was a Yankees fan, she grew to love the Atlanta Braves and would keep score while watching them on the television. She was able to watch several games at Turner Field, a few of which were seen from box seats – an event Barbara truly cherished. She traveled frequently and enjoyed several vacations with her sister and brother-in-law, a few of which included trips to Hawaii, England and Ireland. Barbara will be missed dearly by her friends and family. She is survived by her children, Linda Sue Travis, Cindy Johnson, Donna Kern, and Laurie Miller; her grandchildren, Amy, Teresa, Cheryl, Sharon, Adam, Brian, Colleen, Danielle, Erica, and Felicia; her great grandchildren, Hunter, Carter, Bailey, Somer, Curtis, Erin, Tiffany, Tyler, Sabrina, and Jasmine; her siblings, Joan Treadwell (Dave), and Donald Garrick (Doris); her nieces and nephews, Dawn, Doreen, Danny, Deanne, Kasey Shine and family; as well as many other friends and extended family members. Barbara is preceded in death by a son and daughter, Michael Ochs and Bonnie Ochs as well as a grandchild, Joey Ochs.
