Susan Miles Linsmier

Moore, SC – Susan Miles Linsmier passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 17, 2025 after a long battle with breast cancer. Susan was the daughter of the late Wilson M. and Eugenia Miles and the loving wife of 55 years to Robert “Bob” Linsmier. Born on March 13, 1950 in Danville, VA, Susan was one of two girls raised in Charlotte, NC. Susan was very intelligent, graduating from Myers Park High School with National Merit Honors. She enjoyed being a majorette and was a member of several clubs and service organizations. She earned her undergraduate degree in Education from UNC – Greensboro, followed by a Master’s of Math from Old Dominion University. She had a natural gift of nurturing and embraced that throughout her teaching career. Susan was a 4th grade and High School math teacher over a span of 18 years across Virginia and Texas. She left a lasting impact on many students whom she loved so dearly and spoke of often. Shaping the lives of young students held a special place in Susan’s heart; along with a family buffalo farm in Virginia and involvement in politics. She was a member of Palmetto Women’s Republican Club and was very passionate about being active with this group. Susan was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Spartanburg. The Lord blessed her with a servant’s heart and she spent her life serving, mothering, and befriending anyone she came to meet. Susan loved her family and strangers alike, but she will be remembered for being a devoted mother and wife – even living overseas with her husband in Afghanistan for a short period. She was strong-willed and a natural fighter; her beauty always shining brightly. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love, faith, and strength. In addition to her husband, Bob, she is survived by her children, David Linsmier (Felicia) of Norfolk, VA, William Linsmier of Outer Banks, NC, and Edward Linsmier (Megan) of Tampa, FL; her grandchildren, Eva, Molly, and Sullivan Walker; her sister, Lindsay Kirk (Dr. Andy Kirk) of Tuscaloosa, AL and their children, Miles Davis, Preston Davis, and Sadler Kirk; her sister-in-law, Lisa Jones (Elvin) of Greenville, NC and their son, Kelly Jones; her brother-in-law, Leslie Linsmier (Carla); as well as many other loved family members and friends. The family will receive friends on March 13, 2025 at 12: 30 PM at First Baptist Spartanburg with a Celebration of Life beginning at 1:00 PM. Following the service, all are invited to celebrate the life and birthday of Susan with a meal beginning at 2:00 PM and a birthday cake will be served at 3:00 PM.
