Richard Lewis Bailey

Greenville, SC – Richard “Dick” Lewis Bailey, 72, arrived in Heaven on June 3, 2024. Richard was the son of the late Charles and Nelma Bailey and the loving husband of 40 years to Chrystal Rose Bailey. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, Richard was one of three children in a military family. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1970, where he was a member of the track and wrestling team with one of his most notable wrestling wins being a State Championship match against a rival school. Oftentimes, he would find himself in the right place at the right time leading to remarkable events like stopping a crime in progress as a newspaper boy, or saving a stranger’s life at a desperate time. After high school, Richard served his country in the United States Navy for 6 years. He was so proud of his service in the Navy, serving along with his father and brother. Richard has always been a hard worker and a man of many interests. He was a millwright for over 30 years and was known to fix just about anything. To know Richard, was to know his love for history, all things Ancient Egypt, military, books, antiques, nature, photography, and his favorite football team Marshall. These things brought him an immense amount of joy and he wanted nothing more than to share that joy with those around him. He was so talented, intelligent, and never met a stranger. Richard lived a full life of love and adventure; despite the health issues he encountered along the way. He was very tough but tenderhearted and will be greatly missed. Richard will live on in memories for years to come. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Samuel Bailey and Johnathan Bailey (Abby); his sister, Deborah Rada (Dr. Alan Rada); his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Herrald (Billy), Alex Rada, Kelley Snyder (Jimmy), Kate Runy (Mike), and Scott Bailey (Karen); his sister-in-law, Darlene Bailey; along with many other loved family and friends; and his beloved pets, Buddy, Molly, Ziggy, and Pebbles. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Charles Stephen “Steve” Bailey, and his niece, Tracey Bailey. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Living Waters Funeral Home & Crematory; 529 Spartanburg Hwy S. Lyman, SC 29365. A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 PM.
